What to include on an invoice
- Your details: name or business name, address, email and any tax or VAT number you are required to show.
- The client's details: company name, contact and address.
- A unique invoice number in sequence (INV-001, INV-002…), so you and your accountant can track every invoice.
- Invoice date and due date. Short terms such as 14 days get paid faster than 30.
- Line items: what you did, quantity or hours, price and amount.
- Tax where it applies, and the total due.
- How to pay: bank details or a payment link. The easier it is to pay, the faster you are paid.
Get paid faster
Invoice the day you finish the work, send a friendly reminder on the due date, and ask for a deposit on larger projects. If you send many invoices, an invoicing app with automatic reminders and online payments saves hours. See our weekly bookkeeping system, and check your pricing with the freelance rate calculator.
